Addiction is psychological dependence on psychoactive input into the body, without which withdrawl symptoms begin. Addiction is a type of attachment to the material plane.

Psychoactive inputs may be used recreationally, to purposefully alter one's consciousness, as entheogens, for ritual, spiritual, and/or shamanic purposes, as a tool for studying or augmenting the mind, or therapeutically as medication. These inputs crosses the blood–brain barrier and acts primarily upon the central nervous system where it affects brain function, resulting in changes in perception, mood, consciousness, cognition, and behavior.

In simple language, psychoactive inputs cause feelings of excitement(Ecstacy/Elation//Hyper-ness) or calmness, and continuous use makes the person dependent on that feeling.

One of the neurotransmitters playing a major role in the excitement addiction is dopamine. As a chemical messenger, dopamine is similar to adrenaline. Dopamine affects brain processes that control movement, emotional response, and ability to experience pleasure and pain.
